The Claws of Valdar

Back to Factions

The Claws of Valdar is the nickname given to the spy network of the Valdarian Empire, given to them at first in many a jest at how they would “claw and scrape” to find any piece of vital information. Much later it was formally adopted by the network, largely because it had also gained notoriety that if they “sank their claws into you that you’d tell them anything” or “they’d claw out your eyes or shred your throat to protect its secrets”. Because of this most of the current members will carry a curved dagger that looks almost like a claw you’d see on a large predator to help identify themselves when necessary. Countless rumors abound that wielding a Claw of Valdar gives its wielder supernatural abilities, no doubt spread by the network as a fear tactic.

While the network works as part of the Imperial government, few actually know of anyone who is an agent within its ranks. Operating under a similar fashion as the Inquisitors, they generally are only held accountable by the reigning Emperor and their own ruling body, the High Claws. Seldom is it ever known who is part of the High Claws, their identities being held sacrosanct by the network and protected at all costs. The only exception to this in recent years has been the almost flamboyant advertisement by one of its own, High Claw Valimar Shadehopper.
